A weekend break in Italy

There are so many beautiful places to visit in Italy that it’s just as well that a number of the value airlines now fly there. Wherever you feel like exploring in this beautiful European country you can find a cheap flight to get you there, making it a perfect destination for a long weekend or a longer holiday.

For example, Jet2.com, Ryanair.com, Wizzair.com and other low cost airlines have regular flights to Venice, Milan, Pisa or Rome. All of these are great city break destinations in their own right, but can also be used as great setting off points to go and explore the beautiful Italian countryside that surrounds them.

Pisa is a gateway to the much loved area of Tuscany; whether you head north towards the Garfagnana mountains or south to the rolling hills around Florence made so famous by films like Room with a View.

Of course, there’s the city of Pisa itself and a little further south the Renaissance city of Florence is teeming with fascinating cultural and historical places to visit including the Galleria degli Uffizi, Il Duomo, the Boboli Garden and Pitti Palace and the Ponte Vechhio.

For the perfect romantic weekend with your partner, both Rome and Venice have plenty to offer in terms of beauty and interesting places to visit. What visit to Rome could be complete without seeing the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain? And, of course, there’s the Vatican City to explore too.

The magic of Venice can be captured in a few days, with sights such as the Doges Palace and St Mark’s Square. You may want to explore the other islands like the Murano, Burano and Torcello and the Lido, as well as taking in a ride on a gondola. If you don’t have the budget for a gondola ride, then make sure you at least take a trip across the Grand Canal on a traghetto – which is also a great way of taking a short cut if you get tired of walking the beautiful cobbled streets of Venice. Another great way to take in all the atmosphere and beauty of Venice is to hop on a waterbus and let it take you around the city.

The only problem with Italy is that there’s just so much to see. It’s great that you can now get there so cheaply and easily as one visit simply won’t be enough!

If you are planning your next trip to Italy book hotels, flights, rental cars at best price guaranteed!
