Rimini – the largest seaside resort in Europe

This famous summer holiday resort can offer much more than just the sea and the beaches and whatever else that other resorts offer, but also a nice old city with some beautiful and important monuments. It is located in Emilia-Romagna.

Rimini has one hundred and thirty thousand inhabitants and boasts 15 km of beaches. It is considered the largest seaside resort in Europe.

However better beaches are private and unfortunately you have to pay admission to get there (unless they belong to your hotel). The whole coast is lined with bars, restaurants and disco clubs offering a great entertainment at night.

Old town

The centre of Rimini consists of Piazza Cavour with the Palazzo del Podesta, equestrian statue of the local cruel ruler, Malatesta, and a large marble fountain. On all sides from this square there are pleasant old streets inviting for walks.

But the most beautiful and most famous building in the town is the Franciscan church known as the Tempio Malatestiano, built by Leon Battista Alberti who makes it a pearl of the early Renaissance. Even interior decoration worth visiting. The interior is richly decorated with sculptures and frescos (showing Malatesta kneeling before the saint).

In Rimini, however, you can also look forward to admiring ancient monuments, especially the oldest triumphal arch in Italy, Arch of Augustus, or an old Roman bridge Ponte di Tiberio, which is still in use.

Atmosphere

As already said, the advantage of Rimini is not only in its beaches, sea and great parties (in fact, Rimini is not very suitable for those looking for quiet holidays), but also the possibility of sightseeing, beautiful city centre and cultural life. Calmer atmosphere can be found in other, more distant resorts.
