The Legend About The Founding Of Montepulciano

The legend says that a single man of a noble background fled to Chiusi from a barbaric invasion. He stopped to rest at the magnificent hilltop, which he named ‘Mons Politus e Polictus’, meaning ‘The Mount Of The Noble’.

The legend proceeds to say that the people of Chiusi eloped to this area, thus forming a society which formed the town known as Montepulciano today.
