Duomo di Piacenza

Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and Santa Giustina simply known as Duomo di Piacenza is a really dark church, even to Italians. This cathedral looks more like a dungeon than like a church. With 24 pillars and the heavenly frescos, the cathedral has its own beauty.

Guercino and Morazzone have contributed to the entire structure. This church was built on the ruins of the 1117 earthquake and it is still a beauty. The cathedral is a place of meditation and admiration. People from all over the world enjoy its deep silence and reverence, once they get inside it.

Piazza Cavalli

Palazzo Gotico dominates Piacenza’s impressive square – Piazza Cavalli that got its name from the two bronze horses that guide it. These sculptures were done by Francesco Mochi, a Tuscan sculptor and they date from the year 1625.

They are a depiction of Ranuccio and Alessandro, the two Farnese dukes from those years. It is a place of reunion that gathers the good vibes of the entire community in just one place.

Palazzo Farnese

Palazzo Farnese is situated in the northern part of the historic center. The construction of this palace started in 1558. However, the palace was never completed to its fullness.

Currently, it is the house of the art gallery Pinacoteca. It also houses the museums of ceramics, Italian unification, carriages and archaeology. Besides the architecture of the palace, the visitor will enjoy the unique museums that are hosted inside.

Rocca Viscontea

The medieval center of the village is preserved in the best way possible and it is completed by the dominating center. Castell’Arquato was built in the 14th century and it is the masterpiece of Luchino Visconti.

It is known under the name of Rocca Viscontea and it is worth every single possible visit from tourists alike. You can find it just few kilometers from Piacenza.
