Aeolian Islands – volcanic islands with hot springs and sulfur mud baths

Aeolian Islands, known as Isole Eolie in Italy, sometimes called shortly Lipari, are located at the northern coast of Sicily. Lipari consist of seven islands: Vulcano, Lipari, Stromboli, Panarea, Salina, Alicudi and Filicudi.

This archipelago is unique due to the exceptional volcanic activity that along with many geological curiosities is rewarding tourist destination. Average temperatures are acceptable thanks to fresh winds from the sea that pleasantly cool hot air and provide soothing moisture. In the summer the temperature reaches about 35°C, the average temperature for the year is 14°C to 16°C. Rainy season is mainly in autumn and winter – from November to February. In summer, the rain is usually rare and 6 months without rain are not unusual.

Best connection with Lipari is provided by ferry from Sicily, which can also transfer your car. Among the islands it is possible to move with the fast ships Aliscafo. The most popular type of accommodation on the Aeolian Islands are bungalows or apartments.

Aeolian islands offer really a lot. Do not miss the biggest attraction of the islands – a trip to the active volcano Stromboli. In 2000, the Aeolian Islands were inscribed onto UNESCO list of cultural and natural heritage.
