Pescia – a small Tuscan town nestled in the valley of the river Nievole

Pescia is a small town nestled in the valley of the river Nievole. Pescia can be found in the north of Tuscany, within the region flanked by olive groves and vineyards. This town boasts impressive medieval buildings and its location is an ideal starting point for exploring the famous Italian cities.

The area is renowned for growing flowers and there is also a flower market of world importance – Biennale del Fiore. This historic village is located at the foot of the valley, on the banks of the river, about 25 km northeast of Lucca, 30 km west of Pistoia and 60 km northwest of Florence.

The province of Lucca is surrounded by the Apuane Alps, the mountain Monte Pisano and Pistoia Apennines.

The entire province has a history that can be dated back to the Middle Ages, and this is why you will find here a lot of monuments from the Roman era.

Even in the time before ancient Rome, the region of Tuscany has been inhabited by Etruscans who called this region Etruria and Tuscia.

The majority part of this region is mountainous and hilly and is sometimes considered one of the most natural places in all of Tuscany.

One of the most important and interesting parts of this area is nearby park Parco di Pinocchio. It is located at Villa Garzoni in Collodi.

Climate and soil in this area allows cultivation of vines and olives. The area is also known for the fact, that there were many prominent artists here who created many valuable works, which became the dominant features of famous Italian cities, such as Florence, Pisa and Siena.
